MTG launches digital tape-less TV3 news systems in Latvia and Estonia

Last year Hannu Pro took part in an international tender called by MTG - one of the leading digital media companies in Northern Europe - to develop two TV news system projects for TV3 (in both Latvia and Estonia), which included supply of fully equipped ENG cameras; development of two TV news studios; installation of cameras, video, audio and lighting equipment; development of two monitoring rooms; fitting-out of journalist facilities, and installation of editing and play-out equipment. After efficiency assessment of the proposed news system solution, MTG contracted Hannu Pro for this project. In a very tight schedule Hannu Pro prepared and commissioned the whole project, elaborated technical details, and supplied and installed equipment and furniture. This allowed TV3 to launch broadcasts on New Year’s Eve, securing benefits from all the new possibilities provided by an efficient, digital and tape-less, Panasonic P2 technology based production workflow - acquisition, media management, editing and play-out completely supporting 16:9 format for first time in the Baltic States. All of the supplied systems are HD ready.
Under the terms of the contract Hannu Pro developed and delivered the following:
- A news studio in Riga, which accommodates four production areas all equipped with Panasonic AG-HPX371E HD/P2 cameras with Fujinon lenses; camera base stations and remote control units to provide functionality of studio cameras; two Autocue prompter systems; Cartoni camera support systems; a studio crane; and a Balcar based studio lighting solution
- A news studio in Tallinn equipped with four Panasonic AG-HPX371E cameras fitted with Fujinon lenses, studio control and Cartoni support systems like those installed in the Riga news studio, yet providing five camera buses allowing use of an additional ENG camera if required, as well as two Autocue prompter systems; and a studio crane
- Two journalist premises fully equipped with 18 and 10 seats respectively, allowing browsing, content management, scripting and raw editing tasks, as well as three-desk production editing suites - at each location
- Two control and monitoring rooms where installed are: Grass Valley Indigo video mixers, ToolsOnAir Just:Live Mac Pro based 1+1 redundant video and graphics playout systems, Grass Valley routers, JVC monitors, Apantac multiviewer systems, Soundcraft audio mixers, Genelec audio monitors, and Wohler audio control equipment. For video signal control Leader control and measurement systems are used
Each journalist news system is based on an EditShare Flow Production system and includes an appropriate number of iMac and Mac Pro/FinalCut workstations as well as two EditShare XStream RAID systems, each with 32TB storage. An EditShare Flow Ingest server for SDI and tape based content capturing is installed at each location
The project also includes Panasonic AG-HPX371E and AG-HPX171E P2 ENG tape-less cameras (24 units in total) equipped with Beyerdynamic microphones, and headphones, Cartoni tripods, and Anton Bauer batteries to support newsgathering and field production. Engineers from the Hannu Pro service centre team installed the required cabling infrastructure and equipment, configured devices and systems, and provided connection to the MTG play-out centre.
