24p (24fps progressive scan) technology is the foundation of Sony's approach
to the challenges of the international production market. The 24p-based CineAlta
equipment family is being used by a rapidly growing part of the European
production community. Hannu Pro engineers were privileged to take part in the show when
Sony unveiled a number of additions to its CineAlta product family at
IBC 2000 in Amsterdam.
One of the most important innovations for film makers was the groundbreaking movie camera HDW - F900, which is capable of delivering
outstanding creative picture capabilities for motion picture and high-end
television productions.
A. Grauba, the general manager, as well as G. Spunde, G. Pelcbergs and A.
Bisofs - high-level personnel of Platforma Filma - also attended the
HD 24p digital technology presentation at the show. Highly convincing
demonstrations of film and video clips created by means of HD 24p equipment confirmed the decision Platforma Filma recently made to adopt digital movie production technologies, thus becoming the first production company in the Baltic States to do so.
Their schedule calls for the production
house to be equipped with digital technology by the end of this year.
This decision will strengthen the position of Platforma Filma
in the market and will bring greater opportunities for co-operation in international
movie production. Hannu Pro engineers are pleased to be part of the successful establishment of the first digital movie suite in the Baltics.
The new HDW - F900, the cornerstone of Platforma
Filma's digital studio project, is a great complement to the high-end digital
editing suite based on a HDW - F500 recorder which is already used by numerous
production companies for 24p HDCAM mastering of programmes aimed at international
markets. Alongside the VTRs, a complementary multi-format converter (HKPF-9000)
demonstrated up- and down-, as well as cross-format conversion capabilities.
The new HDC-950 multi-format, high definition camera also made its European debut. Providing high picture quality and superb frame
rate switchability, with dual HD and standard definition outputs, this
model is well suited for coverage of high profile international events
where there is a demand for a multitude of output formats. All CineAlta products
at IBC were demonstrated in conjunction with BVM-D series multi-format
monitors capable of delivering master picture quality for any of the existing
scanning formats. A new 32-inch master monitor BVM-D32E1WE had its European
premiere at IBC. |
