Hannu Pro accomplishes the first in EU NEC mobile WiMAX tests
In April Hannu Pro and NEC (Japan), successfully accomplished NEC mobile WiMAX (IEEE 802.16e) system tests for LVRTC (Latvian State Radio and Television centre). LVRTC is the first communications provider in Europe to introduce NEC wireless broadband system tests. The pilot project in Riga involved two WiMAX base stations, broadcasting at 3.5 GHz, to provide nominal data rates within the area of coverage (distance up to 5 km). During the tests all involved parties verified that the system is capable of delivering uninterrupted broadband communication with fixed and mobile terminals (e.g. notebook computer) inside the reception area. Based on the test results, LVRTC will soon start further mobile WiMAX network development. The high quality of NEC systems has been proved in numerous projects including TV transmitters and SDH wireless data networks implemented at LVRTC, and biometry solutions at Riga international airport.

P2 tape-less technology continues market expansion
Panasonic P2 technology continues to improve its leading position in global and Latvian markets.
As proof of growing acceptance, it has been announced that P2 solutions will be widely used for production and broadcasting at the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, fully in HD for the first time in olympic history.
The DVCPRO P2 HD series were recognized for high energy efficiency, helping each broadcast station cut CO2 emissions by 1.5 tons.
Following the lead of more than 610 broadcasters using P2 systems worldwide, the world's premier news agency, Reuters, this year has opted for P2 solutions, after in-depth assessment of similar systems. It wasn't just about the format - things like the quality and ergonomics of the camera and the range of lenses also came into play, all of which were weighted in order of importance. No camera met all the criteria, but after comparing the score sheets of all candidate systems on the market, it became clear that the P2 system represented the best overall choice - explained Robert Kernot, global head of Visuals Development.
Latvian producers have also acknowledged the superiority of P2 technology. Recently P2 systems were supplied to LNT and PBK (The First Baltic Channel) for news production, TV5 for production of the reality show Hello Jurmala, 3B Studio for motor sports news production, and a regional TV company in Kurzeme.
In February Hannu Pro sold P2 equipment to Italian producers, thus demonstrating the competitiveness of Hannu Pro offerings.

Hannu Pro to supply tape-less news production equipment to PBK
In early February Hannu Pro and PBK (The First Baltic Channel) signed a new EUR 125 000 contract for the supply of tape-less news production equipment. The tape-less production solution is based on Panasonic P2 series cameras and Thomson GV EDIUS editing workstations. Tape-less workflow reduces production time as it is possible to edit the files immediately after shooting and final production can be sent to digital broadcast systems via a LAN. This operational technology significantly reduces production costs. As part of this project Hannu Pro will supply three fully equipped camcorders, four EDIUS editing workstations and two Supermicro systems for media backups. The Panasonic AG-HPX500 HD/SD cameras will be equipped with Fujinon lenses, ultra light Cartoni carbon-fibre tripods, Beyerdynamic dynamic and wireless microphones for interviews, Camrade bags and raincoats as well as SWIT batteries and PAG camera lights. As supporting light systems, the QuartzColor 3x800W mobile set and four component Dedolight set will be provided. Nearly 78% of European TV companies, who have switched to tape-less technology, have chosen Panasonic solutions. With more than 60 000 units sold all over the world, the P2 is the most popular tape-less solution today; it has gained a warm reception in Latvia as well. LNT and TV5, regional TV companies and even independent producers are already using P2 cameras in Latvia.

Hannu Pro to supply HD vtr to cinema Riga
In January the tender, organized by
Riga City Council's
Agency of Culture, to provide multi-format HD vtr to cinema Riga closed. The Sony HDW-M2100P/20 vtr offer from Hannu Pro was chosen as the winner. HDW-M2100P/20 supports a wide spectrum of HD formats including HDV, HDCAM, CineAlta, HDCAM SR, all standard definition Betacam formats as well as IMX, and provides compatibility with the JVC DLA-QX1E HD video projector supplied last year. Thanks to budget-conscious pricing, and taking into account the fact that the standard definition Betacam formats are still widely used in Latvia, HDW-M2100P/20 is an optimal solution for the cinema, where 1080/50i, 1080/25P, 1080/59.94i, 1080/29.97P, 1080/24P, 1080/23.98P, as well as SD PAL format support is required. The project cost is EUR 40 000.

Estonian State TV gets acquainted with HD TV technology
On January 10, Hannu Pro arranged an in-depth presentation on HD broadcast cameras to Estonian State TV (ETV). Senior ETV technicians and engineers as well as representatives from Levira and other TV companies took part and were demonstrated a Thomson GV LDK-8000 HD/SD camera equipped with high quality Fujinon Precision Focus (HA27x6.5BESM and HA13x4.5BRD), or Boxtype HA87x9.3BESM lenses. Thomson GV representatives - camera business development manager Klaus Weber and camera department sales support technician Franck Mougenot - conducted the presentation. The Thomson GV LDK-8000 camera supports all HD TV formats (720p, 1080i, and 1080p) and provides the ability to instantly switch between them natively on all three 9.2Mpix FIT CCD image sensors, setting new HD TV broadcasting image quality standards. The Fujinon Precision Focus technology, which helps to keep the image in sharp focus even in dynamic filming conditions, has been very well received in broadcast and professional production markets. By taking part in these seminars ETV along with Levira, which became the owner of very first HD production OB Van in the Baltic States, has gained the knowledge base for forthcoming introduction of HD TV to the Baltic market.
